Arab Palestinian Investment Company (APIC) was founded in 1994 by a number of Arab businessmen for the purpose of channelling funds and investments to Palestine, paving the country’s way to greater development and creating new jobs in the country.
APIC investments are diverse, spanning across the manufacturing, trade, distribution, and service sectors, with a presence in Palestine, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, and Turkey through its subsidiaries, which include National Aluminum and Profiles Company (NAPCO); Siniora Food Industries Company; Reema Hygienic Paper Company; Unipal General Trading Company; Palestine Automobile Company; Medical Supplies and Services Company; Sky Advertising and Promotion Company; Arab Leasing Company; Qudra Renewable Energy Company; and the Arab Palestinian Storage and Cooling Company employing over 3400 staff through its group of subsidiaries.
APIC are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Officer to join our Sustainability Development and Social Responsibility Department. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting subsidiaries in aligning their environmental policies and practices with international standards, specifically the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards. This position also involves conducting environmental assessments to help subsidiaries identify, evaluate, and manage environmental risks and opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in developing, reviewing, and improving APIC Group’s environmental and sustainability policies to ensure compliance with IFC Performance Standards, WBG EHS Guidelines, and GRI reporting frameworks.
• Provide support to subsidiaries in developing and implementing environmental policies, procedures, and management plans; contributing to, monitoring and implementing the ESG Work Plan; and ensuring accurate data collection.
• Support the preparation of environmental and social due diligence reports and Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs).
• Support subsidiaries in developing value chains and conducting comprehensive mapping of the supply chain to identify all tiers of suppliers, subcontractors, and service providers. Assess environmental risks and impacts across the supply chain, and conduct due diligence.
• Contribute to the identification of environmental risks, mitigation strategies, and opportunities for improved sustainability performance, including ESIAs for new projects/ investments/ expansions.
• Support the preparation of sustainability reports in line with IFC and GRI guidelines.
• Coordinate with internal project teams and external stakeholders, including subsidiaries, suppliers, distributors, regulators, and community representatives.
• Conduct literature reviews, benchmarking studies, and stakeholder mapping.
• Draft internal reports, presentations, awareness content, and training materials, on environmental topics.
• Monitor and ensure timely completion of employee trainings on environmental issues.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant environmental regulations, frameworks, and best practices.
• Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) projects.
Requirements:
- Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field.
• 1–3 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in a consultancy or corporate sustainability setting.
- Skills & Competencies:
• Familiarity with IFC Performance Standards, WBG EHS Guidelines, and GRI Standards.
• Experience or coursework in environmental assessments and sustainability reporting.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with environmental modelling, management, and reporting tools is an advantage.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of other sustainability frameworks such as the Equator Principles, SASB, or TCFD.
MENA region experience.
• Field experience in environmental assessments or audits.
