An Analog Designer (Analog Design Engineer) is responsible for designing and verifying analog and mixed-signal circuit blocks at the transistor level. Typically in charge of designing and developing physical IP such as SERDES, DDR, and memory, using deep expertise in transistor-level design, CMOS fundamentals, analog circuit building blocks, simulation methodologies, and custom design techniques.
Typical Responsibilities
Design, develop, modify, and evaluate analog or mixed-signal IP blocks.
Develop schematic designs and validate them through simulation against design requirements.
Perform circuit optimization across process, voltage, and temperature corners.
Develop and verify the physical layout design.
Key Technical Skills
Strong understanding of:
CMOS design fundamentals
Transistor-level circuit design
Analog building blocks and mixed-signal architectures
Circuit simulation expertise using SPICE-class simulators.
Behavioral modeling with Verilog-A.
Familiarity with scripting languages such as:
Tcl
Perl
Python
MATLAB
C/C++
Common Tools (Synopsys listed below – or equivalent from competition)
Synopsys Custom Compiler
PrimeSim / HSPICE
StarRC
IC Validator
Reliability analysis tools
Typical Background
B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Experience in analog, mixed-signal, RF, memory, or high-speed interface design.
Strong analytical and debugging skills.
