MAIN PURPOSE
To ensure the smooth internal operation of pharmacy services across UK-Med Gaza sites during the maternity leave period. With focus on departmental liaison, medication availability, expiry checks, antimicrobial stewardship, and close coordination with the Pharma supply officer team to meet urgent patient needs and support in dispensing as well.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Medication Availability & Departmental Liaison
• Proactively inform clinical departments and wards about available medications, stock updates, and formulary changes.
• Maintain clear communication with ward staff regarding medication alternatives when specific items are out of stock.
• Provide clinical insight to prescribers on appropriate therapeutic substitutions when facing shortages.
2. Ward Rounds & Clinical Pharmacy Input
• Actively participate in daily ward rounds, providing clinical insight in terms of medication.
• Review patient medication charts for safety, efficacy, and appropriateness.
• Advise on dose adjustments, drug-drug interactions, and alternatives—ensuring optimal therapeutic outcomes in a resource-constrained environment.
3. Expired Medication Checks
• Conduct regular, systematic checks across all wards and departments to ensure no expired or damaged medications are present.
• Coordinate the safe removal, quarantine, and disposal of any expired items in compliance with UK-Med SOPs.
4. Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee
• Actively participate in the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee.
• Support efforts to promote rational antibiotic use and combat antimicrobial resistance across all clinical departments.
5. Urgent Needs & Supply Coordination
• Identify and escalate urgent medical needs to the Pharmacy supply officer /Deputy Medical Coordinator immediately.
• Work closely with the Pharmacy Supply Officer to prioritize and expedite critical replenishments based on real-time ward consumption.
6. Consumption Monitoring & Reporting
• Monitor ward-level consumption patterns and provide accurate data to support ordering and resupply decisions.
• Prepare consumption reports highlighting impending shortages or unusual usage trends.
7. Dispensary Support.
• Support the pharmacy dispensary team during peak patient flows or staff absences.
• Ensure safe and efficient dispensing of medicines to patients, including clinical appropriateness checks of prescriptions.
EDUCATION
• BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN PHARMACY.
• VALID LICENSE TO PRACTICE AS A PHARMACIST IN GAZA.
EXPERIENCE
• Minimum 3 years' experience as a qualified pharmacist in a hospital preferred.
• Previous work experience with International NGOs (INGOs) in humanitarian or emergency contexts.
• Experience in stock management, inventory control, consumption analysis, ward rounds, and providing clinical pharmacy input to medical teams.
The work of UKMED is characterized by great flexibility and mobility. This is all the truer as this position can evolve over time and the imperatives of the Clinic. As a result, the employee may be required to perform other duties and other duties on the UKMED project in GAZA.
